New Post Graduate Diploma in Survey Data Analysis for Development

SALDRU and DataFirst have announced a new qualification that will be offered for the first time in 2016; a Post Graduate Diploma in Survey Data Analysis for Development. This programme will be run under the auspices of the School of Economics at the University of Cape Town and is supported by Statistics South Africa.

Contribute content to the Regional Economic Development toolkit

The Economies of Regions Learning Network is developing a Regional Economic Development toolkit. We are appealing to you, the ERLN community, to let us know about relevant case studies and content for inclusion.

Four themes have been highlighted for the Regional Economic Development toolbox:

  •  Tools for organizing regional economic development
  •  Tools for growth aimed at raising productivity, increasing market access or stimulating demand side interest.
  •  Tools for development aimed at the development of particular firms, sectors or locations.
  •  Tools for inclusion aimed at improving access to employment and economic opportunity particularly amongst the economically marginalized.

The dti launches South Africa Business Incubator Establishment Handbook

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies launched the South Africa Business Incubator Establishment Handbook that will help introduce the basic concepts and issues involved in business incubation for all stakeholders that wish to establish incubators in their communities.

Call for Papers for Conference: Economies of Regions: Economic Development at the Sub-National Level

The Government Technical Assistance Centre and the Economies of Regions Learning Network in partnership with the University of the Witwatersrand’s Development Studies Programme will be hosting a conference with the theme of Economic Development at the sub-national level. The event will take place in Johannesburg from 15 to 16 October 2015.
