The Economies of Regions Learning Network partnered with a number of organisations to host ports expert, Jamie Simpson in South Africa from 15 to 20 February 2015. Jamie Simpson is an economist with over 20 years experience related to port planning, infrastructure investment, public sector reform / organisational change and city-region economic development. TIPs Development Dialogue on Ports The Development Dialogue was held on 16 February 2015 in Pretoria and focused on linking back of port operations to city development plans and supporting the growth of the marine engineering sector.
UKZN Lecture on Ports Cities On 17 February 2015, UKZN Masters students toured the Durban harbour and attended a lecture on port cities. The EDGE Port and Logistics Seminar The EDGE (Economic Development and Growth in eThekwini) Port and Logistics Seminar was held on 19 February 2015 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. This was a joint session between EDGE, the Economies of Regions Learning Network, TIPS and Municipal Institute of Learning (MILE). The aim of the session was to look at the interface between the Port of Durban and businesses in eThekwini and investigate how the Port can be an enabler of business. The seminar also focused on Port efficiency and best practice. International ports expert, Jamie Simpson, was the keynote speaker at the seminar. Other speakers included Professor Trevor Jones, well-known local ports expert and academic, and Irvindra Naidoo of Transnet.
