We are looking forward to the ERLN conference on the 15th and 16th October (Fire and Ice, Menlyn, Pretoria). We have a great programme, full of insightful and cutting edge topics from international and local speakers.
- Day 1 sees an opening by the Deputy Minister of Finance and a presentation of Mumbai’s exciting regional plan. Adam Habib from Wits University, who are co-hosting the programme with GTAC, will provide a response. This session is followed by a plenary session that sets out key framing issues, including inputs from Ivan Turok and Sara Grobbelaar. This will explore the role of place-based policies in economic development and inclusive innovation systems. After lunch, plenary sessions will cover regional economic development aspects related to SEZs, public value creation, re-conceptualising regional development and institutional alignment, amongst others. There will then be an opportunity to reflect on issues with discussion and networking.
- Day 2 opens with an exploration of the state of our cities - exploring a new urban agenda for economic revival and developing integrated transport systems. The role of secondary cities will be featured before a series of plenary sessions covering Instruments and tools for regional economic development such as industrial cluster formation and EPWP. Sessions will also explore FDI and firm performance and how to overcome spatial inequality in our urban spaces.
It is a full and varied agenda with plenty of opportunity for engaging with fellow practitioners across the economic landscape. We look forward to seeing you there.
